Agricultural
Tourism bridges the relationship between the
consumer and the farm community by bringing
tourism to the farm. Any activity that
draws
people to farms to learn, pick produce, and connect
with the farming of crops or raising of animals
is considered Agricultural Tourism or Agri-tourism.
We live in a time where we can walk into a
grocery store and buy meat, produce and already
prepared food items without needing to know
anything about where the food came from. But we
also live in a time where more and more people
desire to learn about the
process of how the food is grown and how the
animals are raised. Farming has become a
fascinating topic.
At Apple Hill Farm, our primary focus is raising
the animals. We have a lot of stories to
tell about the animals, their personalities and
the funny things that happen on a farm. How we
run the farm, the fencing systems, the care and
feeding of the animals are interesting topics
that not only bring awareness back to the land
but become lessons for life.
Our fields are not full of corn or soybeans, they
are full of the grass which sustains our animals.
We are currently propagating daylilies, lupine,
daisies and other plants that are around the
farm for sale in the Apple Hill Farm Store. Our
farm is centered around an old growth apple
orchard which provides apples for the Valle
Country Fair in Valle Crucis. So even with our
focus on animals, we have a more to say about
agriculture every year.
Apple Hill Farm offers events and tours for
all ages including North
Carolina School Farm Tours.
